World’s Only Flying Fox Warning Sign

Wildlife photographer and activist Steve Parish, was in Noosa to photograph the flying foxes with us.  He took this photo of Jan Davey at Monks Bridge, Noosa Heads, where council had erected a flying fox warning sign – the only one of its kind in the world.

Had they built the bridge 500 metres west, they wouldn’t have needed the sign…

When the flying foxes leave camp at night, called a flyout, the colony on Weyba Creek fly up over the bridge, but can get sucked into traffic below as they drop down over the other side.  Council erected the warning for drivers to take care during the flyout (pictured on our home page slideshow).
